Message from the Dean Print E-mail

Dean Gerard Johnson"Welcome to Melbourne, and more particularly to Saint Patrick's Catholic Cathedral and Minor Basilica.

Here in this sacred space is where we pray and worship God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit; fitting really, when we ponder and reflect on the three leaf clover, sometimes known as the shamrock, Patrick our patron used at his disposal to help the Irish understand who God is.  There are echoes of this shape throughout the building.

The Cathedral wordlessly proclaims our response to God's initiative in our lives and it reminds every pilgrim and visitor of the transcendent in our midst.

As an architectural gem in our part of the world it speaks for itself.  Here though, more importantly, is where God speaks to us and we to God, as God's holy people on a daily basis.

The biblical story continues to be proclaimed and we are the contemporary characters in that never ending story telling it.

You too can add your contribution to our story by taking time to visit our sacred place, communing with God, listening to what God wants you to hear and then choosing to do it.

As a place of pilgrimage, visitors and pilgrims alike are welcome here.

Cead Mile Failte - 100000 Welcomes.”

Very Reverend Gerard Johnson
Dean
