Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “Sacraments of Christian initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.”…(Catechism of the Catholic Church n. 1285)
The Sacrament of Adult Confirmation at St Patrick’s Cathedral is in English and takes place twice a year, at the 11am Solemn Mass. The next Adult Confirmation will be held on 13 November 2011. Adult Confirmation Candidates must be prepared by their local parish priest and receive a Confirmation card from their Priest on completion of their preparation.
Candidates are required to attend an information session on Wednesday, 9th November 2011 in St. Patrick's Cathedral at 7:30pm. (enter via the Lansdowne Street car park, 383 Albert Street East Melbourne). Candidates must bring with them to the information session their Baptism Certificate, Confirmation Card and Sponsor.
It is customary to make an offering to the Church on the occasion of your Confirmation.
